Kathy Bazoian Phelps

Kathy Bazoian Phelps has more than 25 years of experience as a lawyer in bankruptcy law, fiduciary representation and fraud litigation, as well as serving as a fiduciary herself. Kathy’s practice includes representation of litigants and parties in interest in bankruptcy and receivership cases and other insolvency proceedings, representation of trustees and receivers, and serving as a Chapter 11 trustee herself. She is particularly knowledgeable about the administration of Ponzi scheme cases and has extensive litigation experience in a claims arising in these types of cases. 

Kathy has lectured widely and written on bankruptcy and receivership matters, with a focus on Ponzi schemes. She co-authored The Ponzi Book: A Legal Resource for Unraveling Ponzi Schemes,which has garnered national and international attention as the authoritative work on Ponzi scheme law. Kathy is also the author of Ponzi-Proof Your Investments: An Investor’s Guide to Avoiding Ponzi Schemes and Other Fraudulent Scams and her blog at

In addition to her roles as lawyer, speaker and author, Kathy is also a certified mediator, enjoying facilitating resolution of commercial law and other business disputes (

The learning portion of the evening will qualify for 2 hours of CPE (Continuing Professional Education) and 1.5 hours of MCLE for California licensed attorneys.

The LA ACFE is excited to announce the California Club as the new location for LA ACFE meetings!  Established in 1887, the beautiful California Club is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and will serve as an outstanding home for our monthly meetings. 

The California Club is located at 538 South Flower Street in Los Angeles.  Many parking structures are located within one block of the Club, the nearest (next door) being the Westlawn Garage at 524 South Flower Street.  The after 4:00PM rate at the Westlawn Garage is $8.  The dress code is business casual (no denim, shorts, sneakers, etc.)
