Medical professionals of all types and other suppliers to the workers’ compensation system have concocted schemes to extract countless hundreds of millions of dollars a year of excess profits from business enterprises, governmental units, and all other organizations with employees.

California has a disproportionately high percentage of the workers’ compensation burden in the United States, running at around $20 billion a year.  Southern California likewise has a disproportionately high fraction of the total cost within California, and is demonstratively outsized in provider fraud.

Usually hidden in plain sight, these fraud schemes are constantly evolving and fan out throughout our state and even across the country.

The presentation will review a variety of successful fraud schemes, from a forensic perspective and examine details of the inner workings of these frauds.  Some (but not all) of these frauds have become public knowledge from current and past law enforcement prosecutions.
